Mission

The Senior Unity Developer works with the rest of the development team to create the technical aspects of the game. Besides working on the game, they are the link between the programmers and the Product Owner. They have a big-picture view of the project, are the go-to person for code architecture and best practices for programming, and ensure that technical issues are tackled in the right way.

Outcomes

  • Excellent code and game functionality, with a “spark” and solid technical solutions.
  • Clean, stable deliveries of the game.
  • Work with the programmers to ensure that delivery goals are achieved.
  • Advise fellow programmers and the Product Owner to ensure that the right decisions are made on the architecture and technical assets of the game.
  • Keep a firm grip on the codebase, ensuring stable code that meets internal quality standards.
  • Coach the programming team, work with the tech team to find the best programmer for technical tasks.
  • Make sure the programmers in the team work well together.
  • Align technologies, best practices and lessons learned with other teams.
  • Minimize bugs, and find effective solutions for technical issues.

Role based competencies

The Senior Developer has excellent programming and game development skills, and is able to coach other developers to improve their skills and code. They have deep knowledge on all things technical. For example:

  • Excellent general programming skills in Unity C#.
  • Good grasp of system- and architecture design, best practices and programming patterns.
  • Experience with implementation of GUI graphics and animation for a perfect polish.
  • Controls, mechanics, and “game feel” and polishing effects for the perfect game feel.
  • Knowledge of debugging and performance monitoring and improvement.

The Senior Developer is the link between programmers, Product Owners and other members of the team. They are willing and able to take full ownership over the technical aspects of the game development process. They have the expertise and leadership skills to coach other developers to grow and align the team where needed. For example:

  • Be the primary point of contact for the Product Owner when it comes to technology aspects of the game.
  • Work well in a small multidisciplinary team (6-12 team members).
  • Review team member code and provide good feedback.
  • Show excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience with game development in Unity C# (Gameplay, GUI, Tools programming)
  • 2+ years experience with mobile game development
  • Read, write and speak excellent English
  • Able to work 40 hours per week at the studio in The Hague
