More and more companies discover the advantages of game-based training:
- More frequent training is possible with “portable” and web-based applications
- Safe, “sandbox” environments create hands-on experience
- Participation and training results are measurable
- Focused training modules improve effectivity
- Training cost reduction and scalability provide competitive advantage
Game-based training applications have been succesfully deployed in many settings. They bridge the gap between theory and practice, and can be easily added to existing training programs.
Serious Games
There are many game types, and even more terms to go with game-based learning. However disputed, the most common term is “serious games”.
- Casual simulators – bite-sized training simulators with easy access and a focused training goal;
- Meaningful games – an alternative to the term “serious”, which implies boredom;
- Applied games - referring to all kinds of non-entertainment games;
- Electronic learning environments – these all-round platforms can be extended with games.
Paladin specializes in applying the latest game technologies to these learning environments. Doing so greatly extends the possibilities of the game, allowing multiple perspectives, multi-user environments, artificial intelligence and physics simulation.
Controls are usually the standard mouse and keyboard of the computer; however, VR gloves, Wii controllers and Gamepads can enhance the experience.
Distribution is an important aspect of an effective rollout. The game can be embedded in a browser, given away on USB sticks, made available as a download or installed on a customized computer. The choice depends on the business model and target audience.
How we work
We help organizations to effectively deploy and integrate serious games in their existing training infrastructures. Usually, we follow this procedure:
- Get in touch: a short brainstorm session sometimes opens whole new worlds!
- Define the scope of the challenge: who? what? when? where?
- Gather information on the training subject
- Consider the existing company culture and training procedures, how will it fit in?
- Consider distribution methods
- Design the core gameplay elements
- Create the application
- Provide support (deployment, manual, on-site support, training of teachers, technical support)
