A love for games is at the heart of the Paladin Studios team. As true digital natives, we all grew up with Mario and Lara Croft, and have been inspired to create games since a young age. Most of our team have been drawing and programming since primary school!
In this day and age, the computer games industry is huge, and more people play computergames than ever before. Many different categories of games exist, based on gameplay mechanics, social effects, visual styles and technology. Paladin Studios has worked on several games, providing technology and 3D art for a broad range of independent, applied and casual games.
Casual games
Casual Games, like Bejeweled or Solitaire, are the most-played games in the world. These bite-sized snacks can be played instantly, but are hard to master. The rules are often simple, and the focus lies on skill development and score achievements. Incredibly loyal online communities have formed around these games, which proves that there is nothing “casual” about the business opportunities in this field.
Paladin takes casual games to a new dimension with Web-based 3D games. With AAA game technology applied to casual games, the possibilities are endless.
Examples: Audiosurf, Chicken Football
Brand games
With the potential of taking online marketing to the next level, brand games are a major innovation when it comes to brand engagement. Properly applied, brand games can be used to strengthen the corporate identity and to position a specific product or service. Games do not only tell a visual story about their brand and products, they even allow players to interact with those aspects. Often simple and compact like casual games, brand games are excellent for increasing online presence and brand interaction
Every brand game needs great gameplay and sexy visuals. Sometimes flash is simply not enough to stand out from the crowd, and this is when we can be of service. Read more about Brand games on the Marketing page.
Examples: Play Like a Champion, Virtual Alpes Ski Game, Chicken Football
Serious Games
Some games have goals beyond entertainment. These are called ‘Serious Games’. They inform, teach or create awareness. They challenge players to learn and practise at the same time, a process called ‘just in time’ learning. It results in better understanding and retention.
By utilizing 3D technology broadly used for both games and heavy-weight simulators, Paladin’s training environments become available to a broad public. Read more about serious games on the Education & Training pages.
Examples: SDO Cranes Tower Building, Mini Ship Simulator for Bergen Science Museum
Virtual Worlds
Persistent multi-user realities are called ‘Virtual Worlds’. Whereas computer games often revolve around focused challenges and rewards, virtual worlds offer visitors an open-ended form of interaction. Through their ‘avatar’ or virtual character, they may freely explore digital environments and interactive with in-world objects and other residents. Examples include Second Life and World of WarCraft. Certain virtual worlds feature some level of gameplay in the form of missions or ‘quests’.
Paladin is currently in the process of developing several virtual worlds and persistent game environments. Stay tuned for more information!
