BLØF’s wish to engage with their fans and show the creative process of their latest albums ‘Oktober’ and ‘April’ were the drive behind the creation of the Pickering Player.
The Pickering Player is an interactive virtual environment that simulates the Pickering House, a mansion in Dublin, Ireland where the albums were recorded. The whole recording process was recorded by eight cameras, which through the VJ-tool allows a user to watch the actual recording of the album from different angles.
In order to access the Pickering Player, a user must insert the ‘Oktober’ or ‘April’ CD into their computer, which through the use of OpenDisc technology acts as a physical key. The CD gives full access to the interactive house, where users can walk through the different rooms of the house and interact with objects which provide hidden features.
The result of this partnership between BLØF, Streamline Studios, EMI Music and Paladin Studios is a one-of-a-kind experience to BLØF fans.
Initially, a free version of the Pickering Player was created to promote the single ‘Oktober’, where fans could visit the site and use the VJ tool in order to edit and create a music video for the song. A competition awarded the best version, which became the actual music video for the song.
Currently, an “open house” version is online in order to promote the ‘April’ release.
